Currumbin Community Special School is located on the Gold Coast nestled between the beaches and the Gold Coast Hinterland. It is co-educational, offering instruction for students from Prep to Year 12, with enrolments consistently sitting at approximately 95 students.
Currumbin Community Special School opened as a replacement campus for Coolangatta Special School in July 2006. The design and construction of Currumbin Community Special School ensured that all students with disabilities had access to facilities and programs on the same campus.
At our school, we strive to provide a positive, individualised, and supportive learning environment for both staff and students. Parents are encouraged to be active partners in their child’s learning and to become involved, where possible, in the school’s community partnership events.
Our school has a Community Hub where we host a General Practitioner (GP) one day a week, providing access to students enrolled at our school, as well as their families and siblings from local primary schools. Additionally, this clinic serves students attending three local primary schools (Tallebudgera State School, Coolangatta State School and Currumbin State School).
The Community Hub also provides access to external allied health professionals to deliver services to students with family oversight. Access to this space is available after 12:30 p.m. and is coordinated through our school administration.
We have a beautiful, green, and lush school environment with new playgrounds and active play spaces that cater to our students’ sensory needs. Classrooms are well-equipped with modern teaching resources, adaptive equipment, and the provision of mobility equipment and resources to ensure we achieve high-quality learning outcomes for all students.
