Acknowledgement to Country
The Currumbin Community Special School staff acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands from across Queensland. We pay our respects to the Elders, past, present & emerging for they hold the memories, the traditions, the culture and hopes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across the state.
A better understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Islander cultures develops an enriched appreciation of Australia's cultural heritage and can lead to reconciliation. This is essential to the maturity of Australia as a nation and fundamental to the development of an Australian identity.
Our Commitment to Aboriginal Peoples and Torres Strait Islander Peoples
Currumbin Community Special School is committed to improving the learning outcomes and educational experience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students through the Barna Jarjum, ''Strong Children', Framework.
The Barna Jarjum Framework is unique to the South East Region Department of Education and focuses on Closing the Gap for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students through culturally responsive leaderships, relationships, learning, environment, teaching and culturally appropriate resources.
The vision of the Barna Jarjum Framework is that Currumbin Community Special School will ensure all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families, experience success, a sense of belonging and a personal connection to their learning.
