The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program was founded at our school in 2011. The program has been very successful and has delivered observable social and educational benefits to all students.

The aim of the program is to introduce pleasurable food education and enables students to learn through hands-on experiences in the garden and Kitchen.

It has provided opportunities for students to develop an understanding of how to maintain good health independently, and an increased appreciation of the value of a healthy lifestyle and the role of good food choices.

At the heart of the Kitchen Garden Program philosophy is the aim to positively affect how our children live as individuals and as members of the local and global communities. This offers direct support to learning in the three cross-curriculum dimensions in the Australian Curriculum.

The program has also created some wonderful learning events held at school, Our Kitchen Rocks, which was a showcase of our student’s culinary skills and Harmony day a beneficial cultural experience, which broadens our student’s awareness of our diverse community

The program is designed to be fully integrated into the Australian school curriculum as it offers infinite possibilities to reinforce literacy, numeracy, science, cultural studies and all aspects of environmental sustainability.

The dishes prepared in the kitchen reflect the vegetables, herbs and fruit grown, season-by-season, by the students in their organic garden.

The Kitchen Garden Program provides unparalleled opportunities for students to develop skills, confidence, life skills and knowledge across the learning areas.
